Record Breaking Year for Snowfall!

So, 20 Boges and all, we survived the bus trip and had a wonderful ride all the way here! The weather was so nice in fact that we didn't think there would be ANY snow up in Steamboat!

But, there was!!!! Steamboat has had record breaking snowfalls this year and it just keeps going!

In fact, this is what we woke up to on our first morning! Isn't it gorgeous? Wish I had a wedding to photograph here in this beautiful place!

This is just down the street from our condo!

Here's the family crossing that same street, getting ready for some fresh powder!

It was a beautiful day for skiing and also hot-tubbing!!! We found out that we're getting 25 INCHES of snow tonight! Yikes!

The best part of this trip is really getting to spend lots of time with the family! It's such a big family and we don't really get to see each other that often all together in one place!

Here's a shot of the oldest and the yongest girls in the family: Gabriela and Anastasia.

Lifestyle - Relaxed Style

Sebastian dropped by the other day - with the help of his parents of course, and we did some "lifestyle" portraits of this gorgeous little blue eyed beauty! I'm just obsessed with his gorgeous little hair and eyes!!

And here you can see how we managed to get these shots in the first place, with the help of my assistants, Gabriela, Sabrina and Chewy, who made sure Sebastian was relaxed and having a great time throwing LEGO blocks all over the place!

My Uncle Will Do It For Free

Just as I finished my last post about cookies and cupcakes I received an update on my Google Reader indicating that my friend Steve from Personal Expressions Photography had written a really interesting post on his site.

Here's the whole thing word for word. Read the original in his blog.

In this day and age we hear this all too often, "I'm a photographer" or even better when someone is looking to get wedding photos taken, "My Uncle/Friend has a really good camera" I don't doubt that they do have a good camera, anyone can buy a good camera these days, they are becoming very affordable for everyone, but the truth of the matter is, it doesn't really matter what kind of camera you or your uncle or friend have, if you they don't know how to use it you still won't get great photos.
I decided to put this to the test while I was in Vegas last week... all the photos I posted below from my trip (with the exception of the cell phone pics) came from my wife"s point and shoot camera, but I thought it would be really great to put this to a real test. As we were walking through one of the many hotels I came across a really neat looking little fountain, so I gave the camera to a random person in the mall and let them take a photo of the fountain....

After that I took the same camera, still a point and shoot, and used it to it's full potential and created the photo below...

I think it's pretty safe to assume that this demonstration proves that the camera does not make the photo, you still need a photographer to turn the images into something that will take your breath away.

End of quote.

Thanks Steve.

Cookies and Cupcakes Everyone!

Last week as I was getting ready to take the kids to dance class I had a surprise delivery to my door... One of those good surprises! My dear friend Yoko (Greenvites by Pulp and Circumstance), whom I've mentioned before, designed my booth at the Wedding Show and my swirly logos, circle logos, all logos, actually...

Well, she called up my good friends, the Cookie Girls from Sweet Impressions and got them to bake me some cupcakes (the best cupcakes in the world!), and some cookies with my logo on them as a thank you for... geez, I don't know what it is that I did for her that made my deserve that kind of treatment, but hey, you're welcome!

I love the close up of my logo on the cookies!

Not only are they cute, they are really really tasty! Try it for yourself, call the cookie girls today!

Kelly & Rob

Yesterday, to celebrate the beginning of spring (and because the "save-the-dates" have to go out asap!), Kelly and Rob and I went out galavanting in the old downtown area of Winnipeg. These two are so in love it's crazy! I'm looking forward to the wedding!

Lots of stuff happening lately, so stay tuned for more posts in the next couple of days.

New Website coming soon!

Yes! I'm excited to announce that I have an exciting new website coming up soon! Like in three days or so (depends on how much sleep I need)! No, I'm not doing it myself, don't be silly!

But I do have to choose all of the images myself, and edit them and write the text for the site, so that keeps me very very busy!

So in order not to miss out on the great grand re-release, make sure to check here often!

Are Engagerazzi Cool or Creepy?

Today I finally had time to sit down and enjoy my most recent MacLeans issue (the one about insomnia). This cover here:

Anyway, Insomnia aside, what caught my attention was the article on page 60 about "engagerazzi".

You guessed it. It's the paparazzi of engagement proposals! They are photographers who are hired by the groom-to-be to capture that "yes" moment. They jump out of bushes, follow the couple on a cab chase and all other kids of crazy stuff, just to capture those "yes" pictures! Hmm, hopefully "yes" anyway...

So, for all you guys hoping to propose in the next little while, give me a call and I'll be happy to play engagerazzi for you!

Oh and MacLeans asks if engagerazzi are creepy or cool... I say they're cool but why don't you tell me what YOU think? Yes, all of you, even my blog stalker photographer friends (you know who you are)... Answer the Poll above please!

Happy Birthday To Me!

I'm one of those "Birthday People". Not ashamed to say it. Not ashamed to celebrate it.

Ever since I was little I wanted a LOT of attention on my birthday. I had the biggest parties, tons of gifts and LOVED a surprise!

You would think that as I age, I should be a little more modest about it and say things like: "oh, I don't feel any different", or "It's just another day", or better yet "I'd rather not do anything, it's ok!"

NOT ME!!! It's in my nature to want lots of attention on any given day, never mind my birthday! If I had my way I would have a WEEK-LONG celebration! One present everyday - with a big huge present on the actual day of my birth!

But, as I age, I get less and less phone calls... Less and less presents... Boo-hoo...

So to celebrate today, I'm posting some shots that I took of my kids yesterday. They are my biggest gifts! My most precious things in the whole wide world!

Nothing can top a gift like these. So there, happy birthday to me! I hope you enjoy!

And if you want to give me a big huge gift here's what I want:

Go hug your spouse, your kids, your parents! Life is beautiful and everyday deserves a big celebration!

Here's my little Sabrina posing for me!

She wants to be the new Hannah Montana!

Gabriela and Sabrina always hugging!

Aww...

My life is perfect in every way.

ps- After seeing this post my friend Steve called me to wish me happy birthday.... isn't that sweet? Thanks Steve! Have fun in Vegas

It's a dream come true allright...

Just over a year ago, my mom fell ill with depression. Not just any kind of sadness. It was the kind that simply eats away at your will to live or even get out of bed in the morning.

Last summer was spent in and out of hospitals and all kinds of drug trials. My mom couldn't stand the thought of walking, eating or even shopping! (You gotta know a girl is sick when she can't shop!)

Eventually, through the hard work of the Mobile Crisis Unit, my mom was referred to an amazing Psychiatrist that took really good care of her and helped her to find the right medication for her condition.

Long, long, long story short, my mom came out of this depression and is back to being the crazy fun person that I've always known her to be. Really, if you have anyone in your family with mental illness (and you probably do), you know that during the darkest hours of depression, it feels like things will never improve.

So, just recently my little brother (who is a photographer that travels the world photographing hotels and the scenery surrounding the hotels - bugger!) invited my parents to go spend some time with him in Paris! (Hullo!!!) Can you believe they didn't know for sure if they wanted to go???

We insisted and off they went!

Here's my mom in front of well, you know....
